I look pretty sad in this picture (above), but don´t worry; it was just a peaceful moment during our foto shoot for the new 5/8erl in Ehr´n album and tour.
We´ll release our 5th album “DUFT DER MÄNNER” in April – Yippie!
What can I say? Of course, we´ve done a lot of work to get this done, but we didn’t rush with this one. The devil is in the details. And we were eager for the small, beautiful details. I think we´re sounding sexy more than ever. Ha!
We´re touring from May on and finish with a big and nice open-air concert at legendary Arena Wien on June 9th. Save this date – Love is in the air!
Here´s a teaser – our first single release “Geh Bitte Bobo”; a self-deprecating song with a lot of groove:
Stay tuned for more song releases soon:) Bye!
Years have gone by, and time has come for my comeback with the ensemble “Studio Dan“. Back in 2011, my friend Daniel Riegler and I composed a concert program together, called “Dekadenz“. Over the last months, we refurbished the music and added new pieces to present a new version of our mutual project on 2 dates in November. I composed a 13min piece called “Schweinslunch“, featuring my long-time partner in crime Clemens Salesny on alto saxophone. Hold your hats!
Furthermore, I came up with a piece for ensemble and cooking performance. The great Leo Riegler will cook a “Wiener Schnitzel” live on stage while the ensemble will play my 7-piece suite “Vom Schweinernen”, to accompany the culinary event.
Don´t miss the performances in Vienna (Nov 16th) and Zurich, CH (Nov, 19th) – see also my Dates page for further information.
Autumn is busy: 5/8erl in Ehr´n – Die Strottern & JazzWerkstatt Wien – theatre work with Jacqueline Kornmüller – playing around with my new modular synthesizer setup – Basketball – LOVE & Campari Soda – Cheers, Clemens
Let´s start this blog entry with looking into the near future. JazzWerkstatt´s “Vienna Roomservice” festival is just around the corner. Save the date – September 22 – 25, at Vienna´s Porgy&Bess music club. I will take part in the opening concert of the festival, a new project called “Control Voltage“. We´re four musicians on analogue synthesizers – Elektro Guzzis Bernie Hammer & Jakob Schneidewind, Affine Records´ all-rounder Sixtus Preiss and myself. Here´s our fabulous selfie:
We also filmed a short clip during one of our rehearsals, check it out:
Guess what, I´d like to invite you to our concert! Sept 22, 8:30pm @ Porgy&Bess
—Of course, my band 5/8erl in Ehr´n also plays quite a lot concerts this autumn – check out my Concert Dates page.
Once more, Jazzseminar Schönbach was a very nice experience. For the workshop´s 10-year-anniversary, I came up with some special ideas for my ensemble project. We composed and performed our own version of John Cage´s Water Walk, then we remixed found sounds and samples according to Pierre Schaeffer´s concepts of Musique Concrete, produced smashing hip-hop tracks and beautifully strange pop songs. My ensemble players and composers were just phenomenal, working relentlessly for a week to ensure we get everything together for our performance. Thank you!!! Here we are partying after the show:
And that´s how I look like during rehearsals;)
Back in June, Studio Dan Strings & myself performed Neapel at Vienna´s beautiful sight Strudlhofstiege. Again, JazzWerkstatt Wien curated this festival, and I´m sure it was one of those days people will remember years from now. Approximately 1000 people came out all day long to listen to 13 intimate concerts on this public outdoor staircase. Luckily, we filmed one song of our performance and here it is for you to watch:
Other random happenings of the last months:
– MORPHING II premiere (picture above) with JOV and dance choreography was very nice, we recorded one track and hopefully I´ll be able to share it with you soon.
– I finished my master studies at DUK “Music for Film&Media”, and finally earned my Master of Arts degree 🙂
– I was also invited to teach a class at the pop!-songwriting workshop at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna. It was very intense, we composed 2 new songs together in just three days! Here´s my class and me after our live presentation:
Puh, enough for now. Stay strong! Best, Clemens
This picture shows my current analog synth workstation, consisting of a KORG MS-20 and a custom Eurorack modular synth. In the last months I used it extensively to compose a new program for the wonderful Jazzorchester Vorarlberg. Following our first collaboration “MORPHING”, we´ll premiere the sequel of the composition next week (May 20&21) at Theater Kosmos in Bregenz. The piece lasts about 80 minutes and it will serve as a soundtrack for a “dance&music theatre”. Silvia Salzmann created the choreography and we´ll be on stage with a 13-piece band and a 4-piece dance company. I´ll try to attract you with some excerpts of our first CD, which give you an idea about the aesthetics of the music:
So, if you happen to live near Bregenz, make sure not to miss the performances. Otherwise please share and support this new project! I´ll keep you posted about the outcome and share some sound files and videos of the rehearsals.
These two photos (credit: Peter Purgar) show me on stage with the great Studio Dan Strings during our performance at the JazzWerkstatt Graz Festival last month. We played the music of my first solo recording “Neapel”. Press reviews and feedback from listeners have been really great so far. The CD has been nominated for the prestigious “Preis der deutschen Schallplattenkritik”, which is a great honor for me. We´ll play another short live set in Vienna, on June 9th, at the magic “Auf die Strudlhofstiege!” festival, realized by our musicians collective JazzWerkstatt Wien. The line-up is fantastic in my opinion, and I encourage you to be there. Concerts start at 3pm, we´ll play at 3:30pm and the program goes on to 9pm, with Dorian Concept playing an “ambient set” for the finale. Here´s the line-up:
I updated the concert dates section on this page, and you´ll find out that we´re finally playing gigs with 5/8erl in Ehr´n again, after pausing for six months. We rehearsed two new songs, made new arrangements of our song repertoire and I think we sound great. I really enjoy being on stage with this band, make sure to come out to our concerts and celebrate our 10th stage anniversary with us. So far so good – Best, Clemens
