“NEAPEL” – that´s how I call my new project. We played a live concert back in March, and the last months I´ve been working on the music and we finally got to record the tracks in July. I´d describe “NEAPEL” as electroacoustic songs, performed by the fantastic Studio Dan Strings, featuring my work as a composer and piano/synthesizer player. The next months will be dedicated to polishing the tracks and post-production and I plan to release the record in January 2016. My friend and photographer Rania Moslam took some nice pictures during our recording session – have a look:
Stay tuned for more information on “NEAPEL” and the first audio examples of the music!
Another highlight of the year just passed by – the wonderful Jazzseminar Schönbach. It was a pleasure to rehearse and conduct a stellar ensemble for one week. We´ve been working on music by Dorian Concept and managed to perform three of his electronic tracks with our 13-piece band at the final concert. Here´s a snapshot and memory of our group:
Speaking of Dorian Concept: We´ll play the second concert with JazzWerkstatt Wien New Ensemble & Dorian Concept at our yearly VIENNA ROOMSERVICE Festival. Besides performing with this group, I´ll also stage my electroacoustic suite “MORPHING” with the wonderful Jazzorchester Vorarlberg for the very last time, since we´re already working on a sequel of MORPHING, which will be premiered in May 2016. Furthermore, I´m involved in the production of “STRONG VIENNA – The Soap Opera” – a performance involving 20 musicians from different genres. All this, and much more, takes place at VIENNA ROOMSERVICE Festival, from September 24 – 27, at Vienna´s Porgy&Bess music club. Be there!
A new record will be released next week: Die Strottern & JazzWerkstatt Wien
“WO FANGTS AN”!
We started working on new songs nearly 2 years ago and now we´re ready to present the new CD. “WO FANGTS AN” will be released by JazzWerkstatt Records in collaboration with cracked anegg records on June 21, 2015. I´ve contributed four songs: “Aufn Bunkt”, “Fasink”, “Unddan Geschdeigg” and “Zaubern”. The recording and mixing process went great and I´m looking forward to your feedback! I hope you´ll enjoy the music. On Soundcloud you can already listen to excerpts taken from the CD:
If you happen to be in Vienna, come to our release concert at Porgy & Bess, June 21, 8:30pm. Buy and order “WO FANGTS AN” – Here!
See you soon…
I´ve composed a 25 minute piece for JazzWerkstatt Wien New Ensemble recently. We´ll play the premiere on May 28th at Wiener Festwochen – Vienna´s biggest cultural festival. The program features singer Willi Landl and is very intense – it´s called “Hotel Metropole”. The ensemble looks like this:
Another thing that keeps me busy is Kristin Gruber´s live reading / performance of her story “Der Brillenträger”. I composed music for her live show and also 2 “Soundgames”. The audience participates in the performance and will have the opportunity to control the soundtrack of Kristin´s lecture at some point. We´re working on an interactive setup and try to find out what works best – this is a very nice challenge for me.
The premiere of “Der Brillenträger” takes place at Verein 08, also on May 28th. Here´s a link to the Facebook Event.
A lot of very nice 5/8erl in Ehr´n concerts are coming up in summer: Popfest Wien, Donauinselfest, Sprudel, Sprudel & Musik . . . take a look at my LIVE DATES ->
We also released our record “YES WE DOES” on Vinyl now! Order it HERE ->
In July I will have the opportunity to record my “NEAPEL” suite for string quartet and electronics. I´m very happy about that and I´ll keep you posted, since I´m planning to release the music in autumn…byebye
The last two months I spent writing music for string quartet and electronics. “Neapel” is a 35-minute long suite of original compositions that will be premiered on March 25, at the amazing JazzWerkstatt Wien ZOOM! Festival. Here’s a video trailer with short audio and video clips from our rehearsals:
The fantastic Studio Dan Strings will join me on stage and we had a great time working on my new music. The track list of the suite will be: “Neapel”, “Airport Titanic”, “Corona Rosa”, “Kleine Schokoladen” and “Shoulder Press”. In case you can’t be part of the crowd at the premiere concert, you have the chance to listen to “Kleine Schokoladen” and an interview with me about the festival’s program on Austria’s main cultural radio station Ö1, also on March 25, 11:00pm on Zeit-Ton: oe1.orf.at
Here some rehearsal photos:
Don’t miss the fantastic ZOOM! Festival next week, I think it’s a great, diverse line-up:
Goodbye and all the best from Vienna and Napoli – Clemens
