Ruby Tuesday

Vienna is hot! I´m enjoying summer in my hood, although there´s plenty of work to do. Lately, we were touring a lot with 5/8erl in Ehr´n. It was very attractive playing huge concerts as support act for big German acts like Sportfreunde Stiller or La BrassBands. For an acoustic band like us it´s very unusual playing big stages with thousands of people waiting to be animated to dance and scream. I think we did a good job staying cool but focused and people really enjoyed our laid-back approach. Here some impressions:
Yo! Sportfreunde Stiller Support in PAssau whats stays Oberammergau Festival

One thing I can´t conceal:

The fight took place in Hamburg, Germany, August 28. It was a hot day and the best players from all over the world came together to play unfamous but brilliant Vertikallball nearby the Alster. We had 5 qualification games and the best 5 players advanced to the ultimate final. The last two players standing were my colleague from the Viennese-Vertikalball-League Michael Bruckner-Weinhuber and me. Michael is also co-inventor of this sport and a true master. I lost to him in the finals 2011 in Berlin. Last year he was Vice World Champ. After last years champ Sven P. Pohl (Germany) was eliminated, I knew Michael was the man to beat. I was a little nervous before going into the last game. I played pretty solid in the qualification but I couldn´t win one single game, not even did I come in second. I tried not to analyze what I could do better to excel, instead I focused on my strenghts, believing in myself and my dream to become one of the world´s greates athletes (like I´ve always read in sportsman biographies – thank you Michael Jordan). From a distance, I´d say it was a walk to the championship. I can´t remember one single mistake. I didn´t think, I just played Vertikalball. A thing of beauty!the plate the best players of the world IMG_6456

I thought about it a lot recently, but I´m staying with music. I´ll not leave my bandmates and colleagues all over the world alone. Vertikallball is nice, but my profession is composer and musician.
So, the next thing I do is Jazzseminar Schönbach. I´m loving it and I will report afterwards. HAVE A LOOK at my dates, September is HUGE!
Love, Clemens

Vienna Roomservice

In app. 2 weeks our new JazzWerkstatt Wien festival “VIENNA ROOMSERVICE” will take place in jazz and music club Porgy&Bess in Vienna. Right now I´m really into organizing this event. We´ll transform the club into a surround sound arena, moving the stage into the middle, and each evening one of the concerts will be performed in surround sound. Besides the organization part, I´ll also perform there twice – with Virtual Conductor II and JazzWerkstatt Wien New Ensemble. My new compositions for the JWNE are finished and I´m looking forward to rehearse and perform them. It is a Suite: AI76 – Allemande – Courante – Gigue – Rhumba! – app. 16 minutes for Clarinet, Trombone, Electric Guitar, Double Bass, Keyboards, Tape and Electronics.
The summer was very busy, I just came home from teaching at a  workshop in Schönbach, Waldviertel. I had six piano students, one music theory course and I also conducted the choir. I remixed “Veni Creator Spiritus” and “Chorus Mysticus” and we celebrated Gustav Mahler´s 150th birthday – choir and electronics, very nice.
So watch ou for VIENNA ROOMSERVICE – 7th – 10th september. Hope to see you there!

Let It Bleed

I took part in a wonderful musicians soccer tournament as you can see. Defense wins games.

There´s  a new cd out: CRNE VODE – Maja Osojnik Band, again I play accordeon on this recording . Maja produced a book along with the music, with lots of photos, text translations and illustrations. It´s been released this month on Viennese Soulfood Records and we´re getting very good reviews. You can get your copy here.

I´m very busy working with JazzWerkstatt Wien, as we´ll soon relaunch our homepage and we´re planning a 4-day festival `Vienna Roomservice” from September 7 -10 at Porgy&Bess music club in Vienna. I´ll perform there with JazzWerkstatt Wien New Ensemble and szene instrumental “virtual conductor III”. Both ensembles will also perform my compositions. The club will be transormed  into a surround sound arena, we´ll have workshops, lectrures and installations and wonderful acts such as Elektro Guzzi, Metalycée, Fuzz Noir or singer Willi Landl. This is a lot of work, but I´m really looking forward to that.

Not only am I working on new compositions for Studio Dan, nee. and my solo project RESET, but also playing a lot of concerts in the near future with 5 Achterl in Ehr´n. Maja Osojnik Band, Die Strottern & JazzWerkstatt Wien and Max Nagl. In August I´ll teach at Jazzseminar Schönbach, which is among world´s best music seminars with many nice people there. Have a look at my dates!

Still, still, still…[-but not for me]

I´m still working on this new blog / HP here and I´ll soon expand the contents. More Music and some of my scores will be available in a little time.
Meanwhile I updated my live dates till the end of june. I think there are lot of different and interesting things. We´re really working hard with our artists collective JazzWerkstatt Wien and we´ll premiere our “JazzWerkstatt Wien New Ensemble” in Budapest soon. A very distinctive line-up: Reeds – Trombbone – Electric Guitar – Double Bass – Keyboards and each player also controls a computer w/ Ableton Live. We´re composing and rehearsing relentless and are really looking forward to performing our new sounds.
Also with JazzWerkstatt Wien we´re gonna present two ZOOM! Nights, in Graz and Vienna, featuring the ensemble I mentioned above and musicians from other European music collectives: Tom Arthurs, Zeno de Rossi and Sam Britton.
This week on Saturday, one can hear me playing piano, improvising and performing Thelonious Monk compositions amongst others, when I accompany Klaus Maria Brandauer reading German poet Rolf Dieter Brinkmann.
Besides, I´d like the Lakers to win the championship again. Bye.
